การใช้ not only … but also ตามด้วย phrase ที่ประกอบด้วยคำที่สมดุลย์กัน คือ ถ้าหลัง not only เป็น noun หลัง but also ก็จะเป็น noun ด้วย, ถ้าหลัง not only เป็น verb หลัง but also ก็จะเป็น verb ด้วย
